Whitehorse Concerts Announces 2017-18 Season Lineup

Posted on Aug 15, 2017

We invite all music lovers to join Whitehorse Concerts for our 2017-18 “Classical Currents” season.

All of our shows take place at The Yukon Arts Centre. Our pre-concert interviews with Danette Readman begin at 7:00 pm in The Studio Theatre; the concerts begin at 8:00 pm.

We welcome cellist Brian Yoon and pianist Lorraine Min from Victoria, BC on Saturday, September 8, 2017.  CBC Music describes cellist Brian Yoon as “Canada’s next cello superstar”. Steinway Artist and critically acclaimed pianist, Lorraine Min has dazzled audiences with her poetic artistry and dynamic virtuosity.  They are very excited to join us for their first visit to The Yukon!

On Saturday, October 28, 2017 The Rolston String Quartet will entertain us. Featuring: Luri Lee, violin; Jeffrey Dyrda, violin; Hezekiah Leung, viola; and Jonathan Lo, cello this group was the first prizewinner at the prestigious 2016 Banff International String Quartet Competition. The Rolston String Quartet was the only ensemble to be featured on CBC’s 2016 list of hot Canadian classical musicians under 30.

We will present Drew Henderson and Michael Kolk, The Henderson- Kolk Duo:

Classical Guitar Duo on Saturday, November 25, 2017. They have performed throughout Canada and the United States, and made their international debut at the Mediterranean Guitar Festival in Cervo, Italy in 2006.

We’ll reconvene in the New Year on Saturday, January 13, 2018 to host Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann, The Bergmann Piano Duo. This husband and wife team’s dynamic and energetic performances of uniquely eclectic programmes have inspired audiences for more than two decades. They will perform an exciting concert featuring both of The Yukon Arts Centre’s grand pianos.

Our main concert season will wrap up on Saturday, March 10, 2018 with Mark Fewer and Daniel Janke: Violin and Piano Duo. This concert is in support of their fine “Celestial Blue” CD released by The Canadian Music Centre on its Centredisc imprint. It’s rare that we present a Yukon artist in this series, so please come out to give Daniel your support!
